Charting
Built for the eight-hour session
Sub-second candle updates, session-anchored bars, and a canvas that stays smooth with a dozen indicators on it.
Bars anchored to the session, not the clock
An NSE hourly candle opens at 09:15, not 09:00. A US hourly opens at 09:30 Eastern and shifts twice a year for daylight saving. ChartAsk derives every intraday bucket from the exchange calendar, so its candles agree with your broker’s — the quiet disagreement that invalidates a backtest never happens here.

Bar replay
Step the market forward one bar at a time at up to 50× speed. Indicators recompute against the visible window only, so nothing leaks from the future.
Streaming, not polling
Ticks arrive over a WebSocket and coalesce per symbol before they reach the canvas. A fast-moving book updates the chart, it does not flood it.
Twelve chart types
Candles, Heikin Ashi, Renko, Kagi, point & figure, line break and range bars — each computed from ticks, not approximated from daily closes.
Drawing tools that persist
Trendlines, Fibonacci, pitchforks, gann boxes and measured moves. Saved per symbol and layout, restored exactly where you left them.
Synced multi-chart layouts
Up to eight panes in one grid, with crosshair, symbol and interval sync you can switch on per axis.
Research
Find the setup, then prove it
A screener across your whole universe, a sector heatmap, and fifty indicators that agree with the textbook definition.
Screener
Twenty-two fields, field-to-field comparisons, saved queries. Runs against a denormalised snapshot, so a full-universe scan returns in milliseconds.
50+ indicators
RSI, ATR and ADX use Wilder’s smoothing, not an EMA. Warm-up periods return null rather than zero. The difference shows up in every crossover signal.
Sector heatmap
The whole exchange as one tile map, weighted by market cap and coloured by change — the fastest way to see what is actually moving.
AI copilot
Ask what changed on a chart, or have it draft a strategy. It reads the same bars you do and cites the numbers it used.
Automation
Python. Not a dialect of it.
Write indicators and strategies in real Python, with pandas, numpy and TA-Lib available. No proprietary scripting language to learn, and no transpiler between you and your logic.
from platform_sdk import Strategy, ta
class MaCross(Strategy):
name = "MA cross"
def __init__(self, fast: int = 9, slow: int = 21, qty: float = 1):
self.fast = fast
self.slow = slow
self.qty = qty
def on_bar(self, ctx):
fast = ta.ema(ctx.close, self.fast)
slow = ta.ema(ctx.close, self.slow)
if ta.crossover(fast, slow)[-1]:
ctx.buy(qty=self.qty)
elif ta.crossunder(fast, slow)[-1]:
ctx.close_position()Alerts that fire without a browser open
Conditions are evaluated server-side against the tick stream. Close the tab, close the laptop — the alert still fires, with a cooldown so one volatile minute does not become forty notifications.
A backtester that will not flatter you
Orders placed on a bar fill at the next bar’s open, with slippage. Indian and US cost models — STT, stamp duty, GST, SEC and FINRA fees — are applied per trade. Where a bar could have hit both your stop and your target, the pessimistic outcome is assumed.
Sandboxed four ways
AST validation, RestrictedPython, a forked process under CPU and memory rlimits, and a read-only container with no network. Someone else’s shared strategy cannot reach your data.
Coverage
Two continents, one watchlist
Every timestamp is stored in UTC and rendered in the exchange's own timezone, so an Indian and a US chart side by side actually line up.

Self-hosted, and that is the point
ChartAsk runs as one Docker Compose stack on your own machine or inside your own VPC. Your watchlists, strategies, alert history and broker credentials stay on disks you control. There is no vendor to change its pricing, deprecate your indicators, or read your positions.
- Encrypted broker credentials, AES-256-GCM at rest
- Per-user roles, audit log on every operator action
- Nightly backups with an automated restore test
